It's possible to be a good person with good intentions. But real change is hard. Sometimes, outside assistance is needed. Some people are not able or willing to bring it about or to maintain it. Some spouses do not want to wait patiently for the change to take place. They get annoyed and think that no matter how much they wait, it is not going to change their preferences.
