They are ready to give up. Many people separate in the desire of "shaking up" their marriage or of "scaring" their spouse into change. A couple cannot claim that the situation has changed. The status quo isn't acceptable. If you decide to divorce and you decide to do so, it's obvious that your marriage is going to end. People can go into this with great intentions. However, real change isn't easy. Sometimes, outside help is needed. Not everyone is capable or willing to do it. Some spouses simply do not have the patience just sit back and wait for it to take place. They start to get frustrated and believe that no matter how much they put off, the outcome will never change to their taste. Therefore, it is unproductive to sit and wait.
